Changes in the riparian vegetation mosaic during the last 49 years were studied along the Big Horn River near Lovell, WY. The results revealed a decline in Populus deltoides woodland area and an increase in shrubland area, particularly shrublands dominated by Tamarix chinensis and Rhus trilobata. Major causes for the changes are discussed and future changes are predicted.
