This a report that reviews some of the unanswered questions in the life cycle of loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta). Fundamental questions addressed include (1) whether a female turtle returns to nest at her birth place, (2) how the ocean-travelling migrants are guided in open-water cruising, or how does the female return from pastures up to 1000 miles distant and (3) where do small sea turtles go and how do they live after leaving their nesting beaches. Influencing factors addressed in the article include the Gulf Stream, weather fronts, and the location and size of sargassum rafts within which young turtles could float.
