Rock formations of Death Valley, California
Noble LF. 1934. Rock formations of Death Valley, California. Science. 80(2069):173-178
This article summarizes the geologic formations found in the southern half of Death Valley, based on a two-year study by the United States Geological Survey. As little previous information was available, the author began by determining the age and sequence of the rocks as a prerequisite to understanding the structure. This article concerns the general stratigraphy, leaving fossils for a later paper. More work was also expected concerning regional structure, and the details of some of the rock formations. Includes a brief generalized section of Death Valley Algonkian strata (no illustrations or references).
