Roosevelt elk census in Olympic National Park: 1984-1988

Houston DB, Moorhead BB, Olson RW. 1988. Roosevelt elk census in Olympic National Park: 1984-1988. Report to Superintendent, Olympic National Park. Olympic National Park. Port Angeles, WA

From the Introduction: "Roosevelt elk (Cervus elaphus) were censused in old-growth forests of Olympic National Park for five years, 1984-1988. Results from three years of intense survey, 1984-1986, have been reported in detail (Houston, Moorhead and Olson 1987). Primary objectives were: (1) to evaluate the precision (stability) of the index counts, and (2) to calibrate the counts to improve accuracy by using observations of radio-collared elk. Here we report the results of counts conducted from 1987-1988 to continue the evaluation of census precision."
