This project was carried out to locate a rare palm tree that is indigenous to Elliot Key. The Sargent's Cherry Palm (Pseudophoenix sargenti) throughout the years has been transplanted from its native habitat. This species of palms, both native and exotic, occur in Southern Florida. The palm is known to exist naturally only on a few of the outer keys and was once believed to have been abundant. Very little is known about this palm. The study that we conducted on Elliot Key, December JO, 1974 to January 10, .197.5. was to determine the location; actually mapped on a topographic map, numbers at each location, size (dbh and height), reproductive status (inflorescence present, etc.) number of seedlings found, and general statement:: cf health (any insect damage, disease, etc,), of this palm. The help of the National Park Service enabled us to work and make a primary count of this area.
