Satellite monitoring of black bear

Craighead JJ, Craighead FC, Varney JR, Cote CE. 1971. Satellite monitoring of black bear. BioScience. 21(24):1206-1212

A wild free-roaming black bear was fitted with a radio collar and tracked to its winter den. During February and March 1970, IRLS sensory equipment was placed in the bear's den, and data were transmitted to and stored aboard the satellite. The instrumentation project and evaluations of equipment performance and of the sensory data obtained are discussed.
