Seasonality studies on the common Phaeophyta (brown algae) were undertaken on Guam to obtain information pertinent to their seasonal occurrences, peak period of abundance, fruiting period, occurrence of sporophyte and gametophyte generations, and factors influencing seasonality. Observations revealed that the reproductive organs appeared only after the alga had reached its maximum size, subject to its environment, in such genera as Dictyota, Padina, Turbinaria, and Sargassum. Desiccation and rainfall seemed to be the causal factors influencing seasonality of the Phaeophyta on the reefs of Guam.
