Numbers and biomass of fishes around Mustang Island were measured by seining procedures. Measurements were done seasonally. 47 species were captured and classified according to seasonal abundance. Nine species were classed as summer residents. One species was captured only during winter and spring. Total biomass of fish caught varied from a mean of 25.8 pounds in winter, to a mean of 103.2 pounds in summer. The most abundant species are plankton eaters. The single most abundant species is the striped mullet (Mugil cephalus). Plankton productivity around Mustang Island is lowest during the winter.
