The study, made in 1971, 1972, and 1973, disclosed that the hogs fed primarily on plant matter, grasses were important in the spring, berries were added to the diet in summer, and roots and mast were the major items in the fall and winter. The total of animal matter was small, mostly invertebrates, occasionally salamanders and small mammals.
