Seining was used to obtain fish samples from Barataria Bay for studying in terms of seasonal occurence and relative abundance of species. Two sites were used for sampling. One site was located in a cove on the bay side at Grand Terre Island, the other was located on the bay side of an island at the north end of the bay, 9.8 miles from Station 1. Seventy-two different species were represented in the catch over a two year period. Species composition and relative abundance are lowest in winter and highest in summer. The most abundant species from both stations was the bay anchovy, Anchoa mitchilli, which represented 71.6 percent of the total catch. On comparing this study with other studies it was found that similar species composition is maintianed from one year to the next.
