Sex Ratio of Western Gulls on Santa Barbara Island, California

Hunt GL, Wingfield JC, Newman AL, Farner DS. 1980. Sex Ratio of Western Gulls on Santa Barbara Island, California. The Auk. 97(3):473-479

The Western Gull breeding population of Santa Barbara Island, CA included at least 10 percent female-female pairs in the 1972 through 1978 seasons. A sex ratio of .67 males per female may be the consequence of differential survival rates and account for the female-female pairs.
