This document provides a summary description of the Shenandoah Watershed Study (SWAS) and current information concerning acidic deposition effects in SNP. SWAS began in 1979 and is intended to understand the processes that govern biogeochemical cycles in Shenandoah's watersheds. The primary emphasis of SWAS has been to assess watershed responses to acidic deposition. Results from the monitoring effort indicate that acidification is ongoing in some of the streams and long term effects are expected if no changes occur in the present-day level of acidification
