The shoreline fishery of American Samoa: a 12-year comparison
Ponwith BJ. 1991. The shoreline fishery of American Samoa: a 12-year comparison. Dept. of Marine & Wildlife Resources biological report no. 23. Department of Marine and Wildlife Resources. Pago Pago, AS
This report describes the shoreline fishery industry of Tutuila Island in 1991 and compares this data to surveys taken in 1979. Data shows that annual catch and effort levels were somewhat lower than in 1979. The fishery has not kept pace with human population growth, resulting in a decline of over 50% of both per capita catch and effort for reef fishes and invertebrates since 1979. However, over four times the amount of pelagic and bottomfish were harvested.
