Grid trapping of small mammals was conducted in the Jemez Mountains, NM, in spotted owl (Strix occidentalis) territories to determine type and abundance of prey species. The results were compared to trapping efforts in areas without owls. Includes a critique of the methods employed and recommendations for future prey base studies. The trapping grids are mapped.
