This is a report written by a Fisheries Professor from Humboldt State University, California. On closure of the Prairie Creek (Redwood National and State Parks) fish hatchery in October 1992, the author suggested transfer of some (mostly coho salmon) of the current stocks of fish to the Arcata aquaculture ponds for rearing until they were large enough for release into Prairie Creek the following spring. About 15,000 smolts were released between March and May. This report summarizes "pond operations, number of smolts marked and released, and the total coho produced from the project." Tables show numbers reared and released, losses from assorted causes, and non-coho species recovered from the pond used for this project. The project also aided fisheries instruction at Humboldt State University.
