This 1985 Master's thesis details arsenic concentrations in water, sediments, and fish in mined and unmined streams of Denali National Park. For this study, a field camp and laboratory were established on the south side of the Kantishna Hills from June through September 1983 and 1984. Four streams were surveyed. Moonlight Creek and East Fork Myrtle Creek, tributaries of the Clearwater Fork of the Toklat River, served as the unmined control streams. Caribou Creek and Glacier Creek, tributaries of the Bearpaw River, were the mined streams. Arsenic in stream sediments varied greatly among sampling sites and corresponded more to variations in the mineralization of the geologic structure than to sediment loading from mining. Over all, the two unmined streams showed lower mean arsenic concentrations in sediments, water, and fish than the two mined streams.
