Report presents results of study, using generally accepted geotechnical engineering practices, of the soils and foundation at Mission San Francisco de la Espada (now part of the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park), San Antonio, Texas. The study examines distress exhibited at the Mission, which laboratory tests conclude are related to antiquated construction practices and faulty reconstruction methods, rather than to the soils themselves, although it is recommended that steps be taken to prevent future movement of soils away from foundations. Conclusions and recommendations are included, along with 36 plates which illustrate results of the investigation.
