Soil conditions on campsite and recreational areas with special reference to Bonita Campground, Chiricahua National Monument in Arizona
Post DF. 1979. Soil conditions on campsite and recreational areas with special reference to Bonita Campground, Chiricahua National Monument in Arizona. Technical Report #4. Cooperative National Park Resources Studies Unit-University of Arizona. Tucson, AZ
This is a follow-up study to the one conducted in 1977. Soil deterioration was blamed for the excessive stress on the oak trees. Findings of the study show that there was not enough rainful in the area. Soil compaction and soil structure deterioration prevented water absorption by the soil. Several suggestions were made to improve the physical condition of the soil: till the soil, use organic materials, plant some grass using nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers, and limit visitor use. Included in this report are: soil maps with site description, site photographs, physical and chemical data, and a literature review of soil related problems. Figures.
