This report documents a soil survey conducted at George Washington Carver National Monument in 1983 to determine the existing soil types, define their boundaries and to determine the nature of the native vegetation. The materials and methods used during the survey are described including soil sampling techniques, data recording, core sample storage, and soil analysis. A geological history of Newton County is included as well as a local history of the park. Soil descriptions for specific soil series in the area are also included. Conclusions based on the survey are included. A map illustrates the soil types identified in the woodland areas of the park. Tables identify the potential native plant community for each of the soil types identified.
