After discussing park management policies affecting the Ossagon Prairie area, this report describes the landforms, geology and soils, the land use and ownership history, the wildlife, and the vegetation of seven sub-units, with a synopsis. The area is in the coastal part of Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. Management options given for 5 of these areas include prescribed burning, tree cutting and/or limbing. A combination of cutting and burning can help maintain the diversity of plants and animals, along with some unusual habitats, that existed until recently; lack of regular fire in the last half century is currently allowing encroachment by forest. Appendices: vascular plant lists for each of the 7 sub-units (scientific names: with abundance codes, native/non-native indication), list of Ossagon mammals, birds (including Spotted Owl and Marbled Murrelet), and amphibians potentially affected by management decisions regarding vegetation.
