This evaluation of song development and territorial behavior in Nuttall's White-crowned Sparrow compares an earlier study which took place at Point Reyes National Seashore, California, with one at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. These authors find that the Point Reyes investigation is not conclusive because the data do not identify birthplace of the birds studied, and suggest repeating it with banded birds whose nest locations are known. The present study shows that dialects may not act as barriers to dispersal, but may have other sisgnificance. Sonagrams illustrate birdsong dialects, and tables give results with banded birds and indicate their status.
