Soundside Coastal Erosion Along West Ship Island, Mississippi, Gulf Islands National Seashore
Chaney PL. 1993. Soundside Coastal Erosion Along West Ship Island, Mississippi, Gulf Islands National Seashore. Louisiana State University, Department of Geography. Baton Rouge, LA
A study concerned with the erosion control activities at Fort Massachusetts on West Ship Island in the Gulf Islands National Seashore, Florida and Mississippi. There is a description of the island and the littoral drift processes affecting it. Dredged material was collected from Ship Island Pass and placed along the beach in front of the fort. The monitoring procedures involved establishing transects for making periodic bathymetry measurements. The results concerning shoreline erosion are discussed and presented in tabular form. There are maps showing the location of the island, the extent of erosion control, and the location of monitoring transects.
