Southern Appalachian Bryophytes in Europe

The Southern Appalachians and the mountains of Europe have all 29 of the most common species in the American Northern Coniferous Forest Region. Nine of the twelve species disjunct from the Southern Appalachians but are allied and are also found in Europe. Other affinities exist with Coastal Plains species and with some areas of the American Tropics.
