From the conclusion: 'hydrodynamic processes and salinity transport in Jean Lafitte National Park were evaluated by computer modeling and simulation. ...the following conclusions can be drawn: 1) The system was not sensitive to the upland runoff... Discharge in this area may serve to freshen the salinity and act as a sediment source, but it does not significantly affect the watershed response. 2) The system was very sensitive to tidal effects...3) water velocity ranges for high and low tides were very similar...4) Water elevation ranges for high tides were 50-100% higher than those for low tides...Tidal activity and prevailing wind stress may significantly change the water levels in the park'.
