The purpose of this report is to provide ecologically acceptable visual resource guidelines for the highly sensitive burn units within the parks known as special management areas (SMA's). This report examines two SMA's in the Giant Forest grove of Sequoia National Park, where numerous giant sequoias live and are viewed regularly by the visiting public. The grove is examined for the visual impacts of fire on the experience of the public within these sensitive areas. Extensive recommendations, involving fire effects and negatively impacted visual resources, are given in the forms of management goals, visual objectives, and specific treatments, all of which have implications for the fire management and monitoring programs of the parks. Maps, graphics and photos are used extensively in the report.
