Electrophoretic analysis of Cyprinodon salinus and Cyprinodon nevadensis specimens were conducted to ascertain which species survived introduction in to Soda Station (Zzyzx Spring), California. The authors examined remaining pupfish at Zzyzx Spring near Baker, California. Robert Miller introduced pupfish (Cyprinodon salinus) from Salt Creek in Death Valley to that spring in 1939--one of only two successful formal transfers to the time of writing. Physical characteristics of pupfish collected at the spring since 1965, however, were nearer to those of C. nevadensis from Saratoga Springs (Death Valley) than to those of C. salinus. Information from a local resident indicates an introduction of fish from Saratoga Springs in about 1950. The same two species were also introduced at River Springs, and in both cases, C. nevadensis appears to have overwhelmed the other species.
