Direct from publication, "The purpose of this report is to describe several facts of the biology of the Roosevelt elk, Cervus canadensis roosevelti (Merriam) as described by Bailey (1936). A 2-year study of the elk at Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park was started in May 1956 by Ham. Bentley continued studies on this species in relation to their range, and Harper added additional information on food habits and social behavior. The first part of the study was supervised by Raymond Dasmann and Yocom, and the last part by Yocom. This paper summarizes the findings of these investigations, extending over more than 4 years. It is believed that this study summarizes our current knowledge of the Roosevelt elk, but we are well aware that many additional studies are necessary before the biology of the species is understood completely."
