An extensive survey of backcountry lakes was conducted in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks to determine the viability of lakes to support fish populations. Each lake was evaluated and classified in 1 of 5 rankings based on viability. This information will be used as an aid to decide whether to discontinue the practice of stocking fish. Appendices include stocking records to 1976, statistical information, and length-frequency graphs for fish species in each lake. A collection of photographs illustrating some conditions found at representative lakes, methods used to conduct the surveys, and species of trout collected are also included.
