Report on the status of sea turtles in the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. Gives a brief background on the 3 species of sea turtle found in the Virgin Islands (leatherback, green and hawksbill) and their biology (lifespan, nesting habits) and research efforts underway on St. Croix, Puerto Rico and Buck Island. Describes the history of sea turtle fishing and goes into some detail about the continuing threats (development, domestic and exotic species, incidental take, illegal harvest, marine debris, inadequate protection and insufficient regional cooperation). Notes that populations seem to be holding steady, but there is no evidence of recovery.
