Includes information on the ecology of NC maritime forests (forest succession, conservation biology); management (federal, state, and local); assessment by island (Currituck Banks, Colington Island, Roanoke Island, Hatteras Island, Shackleford Banks, Bogue Banks, Huggins Island, Bear Island, Topsail Island, Cape Fear); and management recommendations. Descriptions of each area include history of forest use, location and directions, site description, evidence of disturbance, ecological significance, and current forest management. Appendices include a list of remaining maritime forest sites, protection priorities, and principal owners of maritime forest tracts.
