Redwood Creek, Redwood National Park, is the example chosen in this paper applying an estimation method for sediment movement. The beginning of the article explains the difficulties of predicting the downstream progress of sediment added to the stream from hillside erosion. These authors have developed a model for several aspects of river transport of stored sediment from deposits of varying stability. The Abstract notes that the model corroborates field data for movement in Redwood Creek of a wave of sediment added during a major storm in 1964. The article presents the mathematics of the model, as well as details of applications to Redwood Creek. The appendix is a brief 'example of the finite Markov chain analysis of reservoir flushing times using the fundamental matrix N.'
