This hydrologic study was begun in 1990 as part of a U.S. National Park Service research effort to address techniques for the stabilization and restoration of stream channels and floodplains disturbed by mining activities. Testing of stream restoration techniques took place in 1991 and 1992 along two adjacent reaches of Glen Creek in the Kantishna Hills region of Denali National Park and Preserve. This creek is typical of many placer-mined streams in the areas and is characterized by significant stream channel adjustments and disfunctioning riparian zones. Techniques used were a modification of those developed in Colorado based on pertinent geomorphic, hydraulic, and hydrologic principles.
