As part of the watershed rehabilitation along Redwood Creek, stream crossings of former logging roads are being excavated. Follow-up monitoring helps identify the importance of various factors as the channels change with winter stormflows. Results show that to protect the stream channels from excessive erosion during heavy flows, such protection as checkdams, rock armoring, or organic debris may be useful. Anticipation of sub-surface conditions and care in excavation can also help reduce later erosion of the channel. Statistical methods (regression analyses) are described and illustrated.
