Abies magnifica (Red fir) forests of the Sierra Nevada and Cascade Range of California are composed of even sized individuals arranged in patches that form structurally complex stands. These patches occur due to disturbances (fire or windthrow) and can be even-aged or multi-aged. Compares the disturbance history of two Swain Mountain Experimental Forest stands and the composition or structure of the forests to determine the relationship between the two. Includes study methods, results, and discussion. Tables include size characteristics, number of stems per hectare, and frequency of disturbances.
