This study proposal outlines a method for investigating the decline of amphibians and reptiles in the following national parks: Redwood, Lassen, Point Reyes, Golden Gate, Muir Woods, Pinnacles, Yosemite, and Sequoia and Kings Canyon. Twelve species of salamanders will be studied along with nine Anurans and five reptiles. The objectives of this study are to asses the status and distribution of selected amphibians within the parks while evaluating the possible causes of decline. The study should also determine the genetic diversity of selected amphibians which might be used in reintroduction projects. Furthermore, it will help to develop a monitoring program that will allow the National Park Service to monitor key populations of selected amphibians. Project protocol and methodology are defined as well.
