Heard RW and Stuck KC. 1989. Study of the Composition and Dynamics of the Brackish and Marine Macroinvertebrates of Horn and Ship Islands, Mississippi, and Perdido Key, Florida. Contract Number CX1600-3-0005. Gulf Coast Research Laboratory. Ocean Springs, MS

A study concerning the marine macroinvertebrates from swash and subtidal zones on Perdido Key and Horn, East Ship, and West Ship Islands in the Gulf Islands National Seashore, Florida and Mississippi. This study was designed to establish baseline data and to identify indicator species. Invertebrates were sampled qualitatively and quantitatively at each of the sample stations. Sediment samples from each of the stations was analyzed. Temperature and salinity measurements were collected from each of the stations. The results and indicator species from each of the islands are discussed. Maps show the locations of the sample stations on each of the islands. There are approximately 75 pages of data tables showing species collected from each station, sediment analysis data, statistical data, etc. The appendices (300+ p.) are titled as follows: I, Patterns of Infaunal Richness and Diversity on the Sandy Shores of Barrier Islands in the Mississippi Sound; II, Preliminary Checklist - Perdido Key; III, Statistical Data - Perdido Key; IV, Statistical Data - Horn and Ship Islands and Perdido Key from September 1986 - July 1987; V, Statistical Data - Horn and Ship Islands from September 1987 - July 1988; VI, Preliminary Annotated List of the Marine and Estuarine Macroinvertebrates of Horn and Ship Islands, Mississippi; VII, Bibliography; VIII, Keys and Identification Guides to Some Estuarine and Marine Invertebrates Occurring in or Around Horn and Ship Islands, Mississippi.
