This report describes historical and contemporary subsistence uses of Dall sheep by local rural residents of Ambler, Kiana, Kivalina, Kobuk, Kotzebue, Noatak, Noorvik, Point Hope, and Shungnak. Estimates of total annual harvest in the region range from 20 to 56, with a 1990 harvest estimate of 30 sheep. Historic and contemporary hunting and human-use patterns are described by village. Sheep hunting areas show stability over time. The report also includes a regulatory history of sheep hunting through 1991 for Game Management Unit 23.
