A Subspecies of the Lizard Sceloporus undulatus from the White Sands of New Mexico

Three species of lizards are known to be endemic to the White Sands area. Perhaps a fourth is as well - Uta stansburiana. This species is described from 23 specimens collected between 1947-1950. The specimens have been compared to the ecologically adjacent and "normal-colored" brown Sceloporus undulatus consobrinus. Report on the populations of three species of lizards which have whitened dorsal colors as opposed to the other animals of the species which are dark in coloration and live in the desert surrounding White Sands. Sceloporus undulatus, Holbrookia maculata ruthveni and Cenmidophorus inornatus are endemic to White Sands, and a fourth species, Uta stansburiana, may be also.
