Describes a study of the vegetational condition of a formerly grazed area, Chesler Park in Canyonlands National Park. The report compares Chesler Park in 1977 with conditions in the same area ten years earlier, and with the baseline data of ten years earlier from Virginia Park, an adjacent ungrazed area. The study shows a successional trend toward the vegetation condition of Virginia Park, particularly among the cryptogamic species and perennial grasses, with the single exception of Hilaria jamesii which is much more abundant in Virginia Park. Chesler Park cryptogamic species, especially the moss Tortula ruralis, have increased significantly, although still not to the levels occurring in Virginia Park. Bibliography (16 references).
