A survey of non-native (exotic) vascular plant species presence and frequency at 64 developed areas at Isle Royale National Park was conducted from May through September 1994. A total of 124 species were recorded. The most frequently encountered species in developed areas are identified. Many of these species are moderate to severe competitors with native plant communities on moderate to severe competitors with native plant communities on dry rocky ridges, particularly those that were affected by the 1936 fire. Where exotics do occur on Isle Royale, they are often a dominant feature of the vegetation. Spotted knapweed (Centaurea maculosa), common St. John's-wort (Hypericum perforatum), and creeping bellflower (Campanula rapunculoides) are of particular concern. Developed areas with at least 40 exotic species present are identified. Thirty exotic species are recorded from Passage Island.
