The authors of this report researched conditions at Streelow Creek, a Prairie Creek tributary, writing individual chapters on water rights and development, physiography and geomorphology, geology, soils, climate, vegetation, and quantitative characteristics. Following this background information, the watershed evaluation section gives details from a stream survey, a land survey, and a road survey. Drawings, maps, and/or tables illustrate most of the chapters. Attached pages contain watershed survey field data, a map showing logging history, and 2 pages with calculations of quantitative characteristics. This formerly-logged area is now managed by Redwood National Park, having been added in 1978. A summary on page 47 notes that the creek is in 'fair condition' and slowly degrading as sediment and organic debris moves during storms. This section concludes that 'debris dams, organic acids, high water temperatures and suspended solids are major problems from both a water quality and aquatic ecology viewpoint,' but at least as regards revegetation, a note on page 53 suggests that the slow natural recovery may be more beneficial than human attempts to improve the area.
