This survey, conducted between 20 and 30 April 1988, assessed the population status of the black-capped vireo (Vireo atricapillus) in the Chisos Mountains, Big Bend National Park, Texas. Because of the decline in numbers and distribution, this species has been placed on the US list of endangered and threatened species by the US Fish and Wildlife Service. Habitat loss, and parasitism by the cowbird (Molothrus) spp. were the primary causes of this decline.
