This survey, conducted in conjuction with cowbird (Molothrus) removal program, assessed the population status of the Black-capped Vireo (Vireo atricapillus) in the Chisos Mountains, Big Bend National Park, Texas. The decline in numbers and distribution of this species has been primarily attributed to the alteration and destruction of preferred habitat, and to cowbird nest parasitism. Habitat loss and pesticide contamination could be relevant to the wintering ground ecology of this species
