Survey of the Status of the Black-Capped Vireo in the Big Bend National Park, Brewster County, Texas for 1996

Peck MK and Barlow JC. 1996. Survey of the Status of the Black-Capped Vireo in the Big Bend National Park, Brewster County, Texas for 1996. M5S-2C6. Toronto, Ontario, Canada

A census of the black-capped vireo (Vireo atricapillus) was carried out in 1996. There was a decrease from the previous high in 1994 of 36 individuals down to 21 birds in the present year. Low precipitation in the last three years may have an effect on the population size through loss of vegetative cover and food resources
