This study was conducted to see if Gambusia affinis can survive in saline habitats present in Death Valley National Monument [Park]. The author tested the ability of mosquitofish to survive in water taken from Salt Creek in Death Valley. Salt Creek is the only locality for Cyprinodon salinus, and the study examines the potential for problems to this native pupfish from introductions of mosquitofish into that habitat. Results show survival of mosquitofish at high salinity levels, indicating that they could probably survive accidental transfer into Salt Creek and compete with native fish.
