Hurricane dynamics are so complex that few scientists outside the meteorological profession even issue a prediction of tlieir numbers on any given year. Eight tropical storms and 11 hurricanes spawned off the west coast of Africa and drifted toward the Caribbean during 1995. Two of these hurricanes swept across St. John Island during September 1995. This report presents data from a remote site on the Lameshur Bay Watershed on St. John Island recorded during two historic events; 5 Sept. 1995 when Hurricane Luis hit St. John Island and just 10 d later-15 September- when Hurricane Marilyn made her visit to paradise.
