Tectonic setting of the southern Cascade Range as interpreted from its magnetic and gravity fields

Aeromagnetic data from the southern Cascade Range was analyzed and compared with residual gravity data to look at regional aspects of the young volcanic rocks and the basement structures beneath them. The southern volcanoes, including Mount Shasta, Medicine Lake, and Lassen Peak, were associated with a widespread regional magnetic depression. On the other hand, the northern volcanoes (Crater Lake, Mount McLoughlin, Three Sisters, and Newberry Crater) were associated with smaller positive magnetic anomalies. Newberry Crater differ from other volcanoes in regional gravity characteristics, possibly resulting from its location farther east and outside of the graben structure where other volcanoes are oufnd.
