The results of a vertebrate (mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and birds) survey in the Obed Wild and Scenic River, Tennessee. There is a description of the study area (geology, vegetation types, etc.). The methods for sampling mammals included using live traps set up in various habitats. Reptiles and Amphibians were sampled by physically turning over rocks, logs, leaf litter, and searching other likely sites. Birds were classified into four categories (yearly residents, breeding birds, wintering birds, and transient migratory birds) and their relative abundance was recorded. The results (relative abundance, common habitats, locations encountered, etc.) concerning mammals, reptiles, and amphibians are discussed. The results for the birds are listed in tabular form showing the relative abundance and the seasons present. There are lists of the vertebrates sampled in this study showing the common and scientific names and common habitats. There is a section that discusses the threatened and endangered species, critical habitats, and management recommendations for the Obed Wild and Scenic River. The appendices show information concerning: the locations of sampling quadrats, threatened and endangered species, and special concern species; a list of previous herpetological collections from the Catoosa Wildlife Management Area; harvest data (turkey, deer, and boar) from Catoosa Wildlife Management Area.
