A study of ten herbicide treatments tested on strawberry guava (Psidium cattleianum) plants in Kipahulu Valley. Six treatments involved Garlon 3A or Garlon 4, applied to cut stumps. Control treatments were sprayed with water or citrus oil. Garlon 3A was applied to 'continuous frill cuts on guava trunks' in one treatment; and another involved 50% Garlon 4 in citrus oil applied to the basal bark of trees. Two soil application methods were also used: Spike 20P (tebethiuron) and Velpar (hexazinone). Undiluted Garlon 4 applied to cut stumps proved the most effective treatment. The soil treatments were not effective in controlling strawberry guava, although they did adversely affect neighboring plants.
