In March, 1987, the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History hosted a multidisciplinary conference on the California Islands. The meeting was sponsored by the Southern California Academy of Sciences, the museum and the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden. This is the third in a series of benchmark symposia devoted to the islands off California and the outer coast of Baja California, Mexico.
